Khao niao dam (ข้าวเหนียวดำ) is often used in desserts like khao niao sang ka ya (ข้าวเหนียวดำสังขย) 'with custard' and khao lam (ข้าวหลาม) 'sweet rice cooked inside bamboo' but it can also be eaten just like regular rice during the meal. Our niece, who raises the rice, brought this to us. Though it's called khao niao (sticky rice) it's not as soft and glutinous as the white sticky rice. More like the purple riceberry rice but just a little stickier.

Mrs. Shado says that growing up in Sakon Nakhon province they always planted some black sticky rice to eat with meals and for making khanom.

Crispy skin belly pork.
Not very good actually. Nearly all fat & the little bit of meat there was stringy & sinewy *()(*^
