Grilled beef tenderloin steak, baked potato with butter & sour cream and fresh purple sweet corn.

No, carrots grow underneath, sweetcorn grows up top. The sweetcorn ripens to the purple color. The corncob is purple.I never see purple sweetcorn in Blighty, is that how it grows, like old style purple carrots?

Purple sweetcorn has become somewhat popular here in Thailand. It can be found in local markets and the corn we had for dinner came from the Royal Project Shop at Central Mall. Mrs. S also has friend that grows in on her farm south of town. Actually, corn (maize) can be all sorts of colors. Multicolor corn is common and blue corn is used make tortillas in Mexico and the USA.

Mrs N & The Girl particularly like the nearly white corn. It tastes almost milky.
I always thought it was just plain yellow corn that had been soaked in something that bleached the colour but reading this could it actually be grown this way?

Thais grow a white(ish), small kernel, sweetcorn called khaophot khao niao (ข้าวโพดข้าวเหนียว). Literally, it means "sticky rice corn (maize)". It is usually sold in small bunches already cooked and is typically eaten as a snack right from the plastic sack. Mrs. S brings that home regularly and I rather like it. Not sure if that is the same corn you are talking about but it could be. Very common in Thai markets. I think most of the bi-colored (white & yellow) is grown in the north of the Kingdom although some is grown locally as well. I think the bi-colored corn at the RPS comes from the Chiang Mai area.

That sounds like it.
It’s always bought ready to eat from a steamer in Non Sung Market or there’s a lady who regularly has a little trestle table outside her house.
I think she sells stuff grown in her garden, there doesn’t appear to be a set agenda, just when ripe & ready
